I am an Associate Professor in the Political Science Department at Northwestern University. I am also co-editor-in-chief of the journal Perspectives on Politics and Founding Director of REDESDAL (Network of Studies on Drugs in Latin America). My research focuses on the interplay between violence, governance, and individual behavior. I study how institutions and individual decision-making change in violent contexts; how violence—or its threat—shapes governance; and the lasting impacts of both violence and the political and social phenomena that arise in its wake. I study these questions with quantitative and qualitative methods.
